DE-25 Orders Open

Terasic, the maker of the DE-10 Nano kit that’s the heart of the MiSTer FPGA project has just started taking orders for its successor: The DE-25.  Please note that while this is very likely going to be the heart of the “MiSTer 2”, there’s absolutely zero guarantee it will be supported until the entire framework and cores are ported over.  Early adopters willing to take a risk should give it a shot, but everyone else should most likely wait until the MiSTer team officially announces support.  The price is $248, with a student discount getting it down to $207.  There’s no word on when it will ship to customers, but it may be in stock?  More info below the link:

I just ordered one and it was a pain.  You need an account and if you try to pay with a credit card, you’ll most likely get a text from your bank providing an authorization code.  Even after all that, the transaction still failed, so I ended up paying more to use PayPal:  $276 vs $270.73.  Not a huge deal at $5, but still annoying.

Also, I may be missing something, but there was no clear indication when it would ship.  Throughout the purchasing process, I saw things like: “We will start the shipping process immediately after the completion of your Paypal Payment“, as well as “Actual delivery time depends on in-stock availability of the product“.  So I have no idea if I’ll get it next week or next year.

…and once again, even if I receive it tomorrow, you can’t currently do anything with it unless you’re an FPGA developer.  I ONLY pre-ordered one so I can help test and demo it once (and if) the MiSTer team decides to support it.  At least this is all you’ll need to get started with HDMI-out.  Although you’ll probably need a USB-C hub as well, but at least that’s not a custom device.  I’ll obviously be keeping everyone in the loop as things progress.
