You can now reliably boot a completely unmodified Xbox 360 into a custom dashboard in about a minute, using the latest “BadUpdate” exploit. The developer Grimdoomer originally released BadUpdate back in March and while it was an amazing accomplishment, it didn’t work on all consoles and sometimes wouldn’t work at all. This latest v1.2 update was worked on by kmx360 and both the speed and compatibility has been significantly updated – You can now boot most consoles in a custom dashboard in about a minute! This will allow you to have most of the same features as a hardware-modded 360, with no “modding” required, just a USB stick.
The only real downside of this exploit, is you need to run it every time you boot your 360 to access homebrew, however some may view this as a positive, since you can leave your 360 completely unmodified. If you’d like to see it in action, MrMario2011 has a video below showing the new update, as well as a brand new video above showing how to set up your USB stick.
(Update 08/16: I added MrMario2011’s latest setup video at the top of the page)
Also, Modern Vintage Gamer also did a video on it, showing the much faster loading times and adding some thoughts of his own. Check that out below as well.
