MiSTer FPGA News – Cart Loading, CD Disc Loading, Star Force, Taito F2 & More

Super Station One Direct CD-ROM Loading

Taki Udon posted an update on the Super Station One that talks about the system loading PlayStation games directly from disc, instead of dumping the game first and then running the game. It is still recommended to have the games locally stored on the MiSTer FPGA for performance reasons, but having the option to do both will be the best of both worlds.

A dedicated s-video connector is also being added to the SS1.

Later, Taki was able to get preliminary support for direct loading of Sega CD, Saturn and PC Engine CD games.

MiSTer FPGA Tip

If you have your MiSTer FPGA connected to a CRT over composite or s-video and some cores are outputting in black and white. Know that there is a way to fix many of these.
A post on the MiSTer FPGA forum reminded me of how to resolve this so you can get proper color output. You basically have to enable the YC Cores option in the Update All script. This will download additional cores that let you enable the YC output.

MiSTer MultiSystem & Cartridges

The Retro Collective posted a video updating us on the MiSTer MultiSystem 2. In the video we see the final production version of the MultiSystem 2, their solution to removing the SNAC USB port, how they are going to meet demand, case production and much more.

Additionally, they also spoke about some possible accessories like an Amiga floppy disk adapter, controller docks, and real cartridge support for the GBC. This is not dumping a cartridge and then playing the ROM file that’s dumped. It’s running the cart just like the original console would.

You can still pre-order a MiSTer MultiSystem at multisystem.uk.

SNES A1 Forked Core

iamTeddyNL on the MiSTer FPGA forums released a forked SNES core that better supports SA1 ROM hacks. These hacks were developed on emulators and do not work on original hardware. so this core introduces inaccuracies to get these ROM hacks working.

If these ROM hacks are important to you, there are instructions on GitHub to have the core automatically download.

Star Force & Baluba-louk no Densetsu

A new Star Force core is available for MiSTer by developer madoov. Star Force also known as Mega Force. is a vertically scrolling space shooter.

The core can also play Baluba-louk no Densetsu as side scrolling platformer where you must collect all the treasure before advancing to the next level.

Metal Black & Dead Connection

Martin Donlon recently released a test build that adds two new games to the Taito F2 core. These games are Metal Black, a side scrolling shooter.

And Dead Connection. A single screen run and gun game set in the 1950’s.

Air Gallet

The CoinOp Collection team released Air Gallet for the MiSTer FPGA. This is a vertically scrolling shooter developed by Gazelle and is based on Cave hardware. The process to install Air Gallet is like CoinOP Collections previous releases. Sprite data needs to be decrypted but the full instructions are available on the free Patreon post.
