This Chinese Street Fighter 2 Series Was Wild!

China's Street Fighter

It’s no secret that Capcom’s Street Fighter 2 series was a worldwide phenomenon when it first hit arcades in 1991, and Capcom itself was quick to capitalize on that resulting in toys, cartoons, comic books, anime and all other sorts of merchandise.

However, sometimes, not all merchandise was official and this is where St1ka (that’s me), a retro game Youtuber, created a video covering a Street Fighter 2 comic book series released in Hong Kong that has the cast fighting against Dragon Ball Z-inspired characters, using moves clearly taken from Dragon Ball, and even features elements from the X-men, Akira, Alien and even has Balrog as a T-1000 terminator made out of liquid metal.

This in of itself is already weird enough, but what’s even stranger is that the series was SO sucessful that it ran for 113 issues, sold over 5 million copies and Capcom eventually capitulated and made it offically licensed. Yes, you heard me, Capcom took this insane take on the Street Fighter series and made it part of their officially licensed merch. Oh, and have I mentioned how ultra-violent and lewd this run was? Because yes, it wasn’t afraid to go down that route either.
