Sega Activator – The Wrestling With Gaming Documentary

Yahel from Wrestling With Gaming just posted a new documentary about the Sega Activator:  One of the first motion-based controllers, that was advertised as a way to use your body to play Sega Genesis games.  This was a short, but great video that talked a bit about its history, how it worked and why it was always an inevitable failure.  Check it out above and make sure you’re subscribed to get all the new WWG videos!

I think it’s very funny how many game magazines said they liked it, when all the kids I knew kinda laughed at it.  I’ll admit when I first saw ads for it, I thought it must be the most amazing way to play Mortal Kombat.  But after thinking about it, I realized these games were all designed to be played by holding a controller in your hands and quickly pressing buttons with your thumbs.  There was no way you could move your limbs as fast as you press buttons.  And what about jumping?  A person can’t jump like a video game character!  So I never got one and never even played one.  I’ll admit though, much like the Power Glove, I think this is something I’d probably enjoy trying once, then never again.  Maybe I’ll buy one used from the link above, do a livestream trying it, then sell it an an expo or something…
