Braided SNES/SFC Controller Cable

J&T Studio has just started selling braided controller cable replacements for Super Nintendo and Super Famicom controllers.  These are aiming to be as high quality as their braided NES controller cables and come in two sizes: A shorter SFC length and longer SNES length.  The prices are about $18-$20, but they’re on sale now for about $15.  One thing to note, is these will require you to desolder and replace the connector on the controller PCB, with the new one provided in the kit.  More details after the link:

There’s a few things to note about these and the first thing I’d like to mention is you get what you pay for.  Sure, you can probably get some $1 Aliexpress replacement cable, but the quality is always questionable.  These are aiming to be a premium option that’s built to J&T’s high standards, looks great and won’t crimp like normal rubber cables.

Next, anyone with Super Famicom controllers and their really short cables might want to consider upgrading to the longer version of these.  I’ve always enjoyed having at least one SFC controller in my collection, but I always have to use it with a controller extension cable, as they’re just too short for normal use!  Mine’s in mint condition, so I’ll leave it alone…but if my cord ever frays or break’s, I’m absolutely getting one of these!

Also, it’s disappointing that these aren’t simply plug and play like their NES braided cables, but that’s not J&T’s fault – The connector Nintendo used on the original SNES/SFC controller boards has been long discontinued and aren’t available anywhere.  J&T supplies a new one that’s the same pin spacing and pitch and it shouldn’t be too hard for even beginners to swap out, provided you have the right basic tools.  While a tiny bit of soldering won’t deter anyone with a chewed up, broken controller cable, I imagine people without soldering experience just looking for a unique aesthetic upgrade might skip this one.  Or just ask a friend to swap it for you 🙂
