New Atari 2600 Composite / S-Video Mod

The Retro Channel has just released a new Composite / S-Video mod that’s easy to install and gets you quality video output.  It can be installed as a #nocutmod, or you can add the outputs right to the case.  The video above shows detailed installation instructions for 6-Switch, 4-Switch and Jr installations, as well as comparisons.  This is obviously not going to give you the same results as an RGB mod, but it’s less than half the price, easier to install and if you’re playing on a CRT with only composite inputs, then RGB wouldn’t matter anyway.  More thoughts below the links:

I love that this board sits right over the necessary pins, which greatly reduces the amount of wires that need to be soldered.  That results in not just a cleaner look, but less room for issues!  Also, make sure to watch the part of the video about adjusting the color trim POT, as I imagine that will vary on a console-by-console basis.  Having a test pattern is best, but you can definitely just “eyeball it” using your favorite game for decent results.

Also, this is the same creator / store that made the easy PS1 digital audio mod, which is based out of Australia.  If you’re off-island, shipping will obviously be a bit more, so I recommend checking out their full store and see if there’s anything else you’d be interested in.  If I didn’t already own an RGBench, I’d absolutely pick up one of their SCART breakout boards.
